UK manufacturing switches on to ultra-fast REVO™ 5-axis CMM scanning

REVO™ in action at UK seminar, September 2008Renishaw is delighted with the response to the first REVO seminars, held in September and attended by engineers from automotive, aerospace and subcontract manufacturing. Comments from attendees included - "We have to implement this technology within the coming year to cope with the demand for inspection...The software is far easier to program than I thought...We will be testing REVO as part of our next CMM evaluation".

This is a system you have to see in action - when you do you are struck by the considerable jump in speed and the way REVO uses a completely different approach to conventional co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) inspection.

Attendees to the seminars were taken through all the capabilities of the REVO system in detail, with explanation of the different REVO inspection moves, and the software packages on offer.  They had a chance to discuss the technical details with CMM engineers, including accuracy, specifying the system on new or existing CMMs, and how to measure their own jobs.

Unlike conventional scanning methods, which rely on speeding up the motion of the CMM's three axes in order to scan quickly, 5-axis scanning uses synchronised motion of machine and head axes to minimise the dynamic errors of CMM motion at ultra-high scanning speeds. Up to 500 mm/s is possible without any loss in accuracy.

It's not too late to see REVO in action, with three more regional seminars in the next few weeks, in Gloucestershire on Tuesday 4th November, Birmingham on Tuesday 18th November and Halifax on Thursday 20th November.  Visit www.renishaw.info/roadshow for more information or to register, but hurry as places are limited.
